It is with the deepest sorrow that we inform the ELTI community of the passing of our dear colleague and friend, Helmut von Glasenapp, who sadly left us last Friday, at the age of 62

Helmut was truly the heart and driving force of the ELTI Secretariat, serving as Secretary-General since October 2016. His time with the association was marked by exceptional commitment, professionalism and humanity, leaving a lasting mark on all who had the pleasure of working with him.

Helmut’s career in banking and investment spanned more than four decades. At KfW, he held several key roles, including in venture capital and innovation financing, before representing the institution in Brussels as Head of its Liaison Office to the European Union. He also served as a Seconded National Expert at the European Commission and later joined its Task Force for Greece. In 2016, Helmut brought this wealth of European and financial experience to ELTI, where he was appointed Secretary-General later that year.

Over the past nine years, Helmut played a central role in advancing ELTI’s mission and strengthening cooperation among its members. His tireless work helped position National Promotional Banks and Institutions more prominently within the European landscape, fostering their role in supporting long-term investment and sustainable development.

Helmut will be remembered not only for his leadership and vision, but also for his warmth, humour and collegial spirit. He built lasting friendships across the network, always ready to offer support and guidance with kindness and generosity.

He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy will continue to inspire our community in the years to come.
